Raft Mission

  1. This is a Buddhist and 12-step recovery program that seeks to integrate the structured 12-step model with Buddhist recovery and traditional dharma education.

  2. We believe in using the teachings and tools that help us cross the waters of suffering - and in knowing when to set them down. Inspired by the parable of the raft, we honor diverse recovery paths while encouraging individuals to choose what truly supports their journey. Our mission is to foster healing through flexibility, discernment, and the freedom to evolve.

  3. Unlike traditional programs, which emphasize turning one’s will over to a “higher power” or “God,” this model provides a non-theistic or spiritually secular approach - often interpreting HP or God as sources like dharma, sangha, or other Buddhist principles that are secular in nature.

  4. Inspired by pioneers like Refuge Recovery, Kevin Griffin, 8 Step Recovery, and Recovery Dharma, as well as agnostic and non-theistic 12-step literature and culture.

  5. With the 12 Steps, the Four Noble Truths and Tasks, and the Eightfold Path, we hope to provide a thorough roadmap for internal transformation and recovery from all forms of addiction - combining shared experience (sangha), sponsorship, ethical practice, accountability, and service work.

  6. We strongly suggest working this program with someone who has gone before and actively being of service whenever and wherever possible.
